  • Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, father of Independence, established pottery, carpentry and textile weaving workshops in that town to train farmers and artisans.
  • The Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores is an 18th century construction, with a churrigueresque facade made of pink quarry that has two carved and gilded wooden altarpieces that date from the times of priest Miguel Hidalgo.
  • During the War of Independence, the house of priest Hidalgo was sacked and turned into  barracks. Now-a-days, furniture and some objects from the 18th and 19th centuries are preserved inside.
  • Visit the Hacienda de la “Erre”; It is located 8 km away from Dolores Hidalgo. It is one of the oldest haciendas in Mexico. It was built in the seventeenth century and there the priest Hidalgo formed the first insurgent army.
  • Don Miguel Hidalgo was born and raised in the Hacienda de San Diego de Corralejo, which was built in the 16th century.
